From ideas to Reality An LA Here and Now Interactive Workshop
Saturday May 19, 2012 9.30am - 1.30pm
In our last workshop we asked you to generate concepts for making a better LA. You responded with some amazing ideas, including skill sharing on the bus, an adopt-a-bustop program, and a social-networking platform that encourages more bike riding in the city.
In our next workshop we teach you how to turn ideas into reality. Regardless of whether your idea lends itself to a non-profit, for-profit or for-fun model, you will learn techniques for how to hone any vision into something impactful and sustainable for the long-term.
What You Need to Know
It's a 4-hour workshop where small teams, guided by our coordinators, will explore 4 big ideas for LA
Come with your own ideas, explore on an idea generated in our last workshop, or simply have fun working with others to create positive change in LA
Space is limited to 25 people
The cost ($20) covers coffee and healthy snacks to help get your creative juices going
Donations of more than 20 dollars will help fund those that can't afford registration
We'll finish the day with presentations from each group and resources you can use to guide next steps
As a group, we'll vote on the best ideas and we'll celebrate with a drink and some food after the event
Who should attend Anyone who has ever wanted to improve the place they live in. This includes creative people from all disciplines, including developers & coders, designers, planners, journalists, civic leaders & community activists - expect a fun and interactive day where you meet new people. All levels of experience are welcome as are those that are already working on an idea that will improve LA.
Why are we doing this? At City Works Campaign, we want to help you help your city. We believe that smart cities are not all about technology. They're about a new age of participation where smart people like you come together in multi-disciplinary teams to create projects that will improve city life.

LA Here and Now is City Works Campaign's LA-based event and workshop series.
The goal of LA Here and Now is to to make the City of Los Angeles a better place to live, work and play in. Through partnering with interesting LA groups and putting on workshops and events, we leverage and integrate the skills of local urbanists, designers programmers, software developers, designers, community activists, urban planners, and urban thinkers into real solutions for our city’s problems.
